Software Tool uses Device Descriptions for DTM Generation - Standard DTMs for Profibus Field Devices The software tool is DTMcreator EDD from ifak system GmbH uses an existing Electronic Device Description (EDD) for DTM generation. Manufacturers of Profibus field devices who have already described all essential features of their products in electronic way are enabled to start directly into the FDT world. Maintaining the textual device description as the starting information the DTM generator gives an entire description of the device functionality. The tool is able to present even complex features compared to the limited abilities of today's device descriptions interpreters.
The software employs the established Electronic Device Description Language for the simplified transition from EDD to the application of FDT configuration. With the is DTMcreator EDD a VisualC++ based code is developed. A running time library and standard GUI elements are included. Thanks to the provided basic functionality a DTM generated from an EDD can be used at once. Corresponding to the manufacturer's demands on user interface design and algorithmic these components can be enlarged in any way by programming based on C++ (optional MFC) respectively VisualBasic.
