The toolkit enables equipment manufacturers to develop Device Type Manager (DTM) for their fieldbus devices in accordance to the FDT specification. A DTM provides comfortable device access and management, independently on the used control system and fieldbus.
FDT is both a manufacturer and fieldbus independent standard for field device configuration. An uniform set of functions and data exchange formats are defined. To configure a field device optimally, its DTM should be provided with all device specific functions and dialogs (general information about the manufacturer, device type, documentation, diagnosis and others). Tied into the communication structure of the FDT architecture the DTMs form the basis for a configuration of all devices from a central desk.
