The CAN - (Controller Area Network) is an asynchronous, serial field bus system. CAN was developed for the networking of control units in vehicles, standardized internationally and defines the Layer 1 (physical layer) and 2 (Data Link Layer) of the OSI reference model.
CANopen is a CAN-based layer - 7 (application layer) communication protocol. The connection of the participants in the CANopen network is realized via 9-pin D-Sub connector. In a CANopen network up to 127 participants can be connected. The transmission speed of a CANopen network depends on the bus length.
