The Device Type Manager isPro CommDTM provides access to the Profibus devices of the is Pro product range (USB and PCI). It implements a so called CommDTM (Communication DTM). Within the FDT architecture, the component enables DeviceDTMs to connect to their respective devices via Profibus DP/V1. The isPro CommDTM is compliant to the current version 1.2.1 of the FDT standard. It is responsible for the management and configuration of the communication device. Based on the CommChannel provided by the CommDTM the DeviceDTMs can handle the engineering and commissioning tasks for a remote device from one central workplace.

The Communication DTM isPro DTM contains all communication device specific functions. The configuration parameters of the communication device can be accessed through a set of property pages which are embedded into an ActiveX control. No additional proprietary configuration software is needed for the setting of the communication properties of the Profibus device.  If you compare the FDT framework to proprietary software architecture as practised up- to-date, the CommDTM replaces the until now used configuration software. The CommChannel replaces the communication library functions with a standardised access method to the underlying communication.
